Available for Arcades on SpringboardVR 6d5b4406ea Title: The Way of Kings: Escape the Shattered PlainsGenre: AdventureDeveloper:Arcturus Studios IncPublisher:Arcturus Studios IncRelease Date: 2 Mar, 2018 The Way Of Kings: Escape The Shattered Plains Fun game. Lots of potential. Too bad there are like 10 more books that need to be written.. This game would be great if there was more than 10 minutes of content.. Recommended only if you can get this on sale, and if you're a fan of Sanderson's "Way of Kings" book and want to see the Shattered Plains for yourself. It's a very short experience (20 minutes or so) with little replay value, but it looks impressive and has some fun interactions with the inhabitants, and it gets the feel of the book's world across pretty well.Don't get this if you don't know the book since it likely won't make much sense to you, and I'd also consider the content to be a bit of a spoiler for what happens in the book.I also wouldn't get this if it's on full price - I got it at 60% off for $4.39, and that seems OK for a niche experience with excellent production values. Seemed worth the cost of a fancy cup of coffee to get to meet Syl and see a Chasmfiend close up.If you're still interested after these caveats, and can keep your expectations in check, give it a go :-). I loved every minute of this and I will likely play it many times over and invite anyone I have over try it. No its not a full game, yes it's a little pricey in comparison to other things on the market, but damn. I was Kaladin Stormblessed. I played this on a Samsung Odyssey HMD with no problems.. When I heard that this was released, I rushed out to buy it before reading the reviews. Don't make the same mistake. This should be a freebie, and even then it's rough and very short. Requesting a refund.. Die hard SLA fans: This is a pretty awesome experience just to see the parshendi and the chasms up close in VR. The chasm fiend is just as scary in VR as I imagined in the book. I am happy I got this, even if it only takes 15 minutes to beat. I did wait till this went on sale for $4 and I definitely think that is the best choice if you can wait. I think it is worth it just to support any dev that will developer Sanderson games, hence why I am going to recommend it.Anyone else: Don't buy this. It is unpolished, clunky, and definitely not worth the money. There are much better VR games for the price. Go read The Way of Kings, then you will likely become a Die Hard SLA fan as I listed above. Decide then if this is worth it to you.. YOU CAN SEE SYLPHRENA'S SAFEHAND! WHAT A SCANDAL!Once I was done gawking at the ungloved hand of this game's Cortana, I found the atmosphere of the chasms to be pretty true to the books and the Stormlight powers easy to use. Being a huge fan of the books, I appreciated Syl informing us on the various plants and animals you bump into. I ran into a couple of bugs that completely stopped my teleport from working but the game was short enough that I wasn't too upset with having to restart. It does make me wish that you could survive longer in the highstorm if you can dogde well enough and maybe catch a glimps of the Stormfather before being forcibly knocked out.I mainly bought the game to "vote with my wallet" for more Stormlight Archives games rather than expecting a great game (which, I'm sorry, this is not yet a great game). But despite the short length and bugs I ran into, I enjoyed my time playing it, especially the "Parshendi Punch-Out" at the end!. I meet or exceed all the system requirements, but things did not run smoothly at all. During the battle with the parshendi, everything was flashing on and off and hopping around so much it made me sick, and I can play Fallout 4 VR in walk mode without the goggle effect turned on pretty much indefinitely, so I know I'm not motion sickness sensitive. When the chasm fiend showed up, it got worse, to the point of being unplayable. This feels like a rough draft. That being said, I think it would be enjoyable if the issues were fixed.. Absolutely beautiful game, and I really liked the different models of the parshendi and chasmfiends, and how they represented the ones from the books very well. However. The problems with gameplay are too, well, problematic for it to be worth playing. I was so looking forward to running around the Shattered Plains, lashing myself to anything and everything, throwing things around like crazy, but I encountered gamebreaking bugs not even 2 minutes in. I restarted the game and got past the first one, then one of the parshendi in the chasmfiend battle bugged out and couldn't die, so I couldn't even finish it. At this point I was fed up with the bugs and the lack of actual depth in the game so I stopped trying.. Picked this up at $10.99 and it's the first time I've requested a refund. 37 min and 10 of that was confirming that was indeed, all there was too this "game". This is a promotional tool. As such it should be priced in the $2-$4 range, and ideally be free. Now, this WOULD seem to make a nice game. It looked very cool, and it did make me interested in seeing what the book(s) may be like as a friend recomended them already. It's just not worth the list price. Not to knock the developers. It really is cool looking. All 20-30 min of which, IMO, doesn't have replay value.
